Job Seekers Changing Names to Hide Facebook Profiles

A recent article from CNN finds many applicants are changing their names on Facebook as a way to hide their profiles from the eyes of potential employers. Some tricks involve using a nickname, misspelling a name, or just swapping last and middle monikers. Unfortunately, simply changing your name may not hide your Facebook antics from a hiring manager. If you use the same e-mail address for professional and personal contacts, for instance, your profile can be found with a simple search.
All Facebook makes the interesting point that attempting to hide your Facebook account, even if there is nothing incriminating on it, could end up hurting applicants. If an employer finds someone attempting to hide their profile, it could negatively impact that individual's chances of landing the job.
We urge all people who are applying for jobs to familiarize themselves with Facebook's privacy controls, purge their profiles of anything offensive or incriminating, and exercise a little restraint. Remember what Mark Zuckerberg said: privacy is a thing of the past. [From: CNN, via: All Facebook]

Don't change your name, just change your privacy settings. It really isn't that complicated.

Just setting it to private wont always work. Some companies hire kids in school that just might be your friend already.

Yeah, I don't get it. Why not just set your profile so that only FB friends can see it. Anyone who is not one of your FB friends would only see your photo and would have an opportunity to send you a message.

Who in the hell didn't know to do this already, i know we have some pretty stupid ppl out there in the world but come on now, that should be common sense. Oh yea I forgot a lot of ppl lack that very thing. LMAO!!!
Yea my name is slightly different but regurdless my entire profile is private unless ur a friend and even then my email address, cell, address etc are all set to "only me" and you cant even send me a inbox unless your my friend.....& I rarly post things on other ppl's walls unless its just to say hello & have a nice day. If I dont have a close relationship with you or grew up all thru school with you then I aint approving ur friend request either...
I aint no dummy !!!!

Sadly some of us spend to much time on Facebook, and less time remembering how to type and spell correctly. Pretty sure it can't take a whole lot of time to type out "your", it's two other letters. At least you used punctuation, that's a step above a lot of the population.

Unfortunately there are a lot of dummies out there who still don't know how to do this with their accounts...so me, you and Mustafa in Yemen can see everthing. Gawd...there are a LOT of people who allow ANYONE to see ANYTHING, their wall, their photos, their info, anything and everything.

I do not know why anyone would give out any personal information anyway on the computer....one would think that people would be a bit smarter than this....but I do not know....anything goes these days....when you can not trust the people who are suppose to enforce the law....then I guess a person can not really trust anyone at all.....you think?
