Disney, Hyundai Add to iPad Pandemonium, California Cell Ban Generating Serious Cash

Highlights from this morning's other big tech headlines....
- The Disney family of networks has released an assortment of official iPad apps, including two 'Toy Story' read-alongs, and it's all quite timely considering the third chapter in the trilogy hits theaters this year. iPad owners will also have exclusive access to two new paid ESPN apps, including an upgraded version of 'ScoreCenter,' and a new sports-themed pinball game. - A seemingly modest $25 fine for distracted driving (which increases upon repeat offenses) is generating an incredible amount of revenue for the state of California. The law, which covers both talking and texting while driving, has reportedly produced an expected 2009 revenue of $31 million as a result of approximately 275,000 citations. And the cash cow may get even fatter, as a newly introduced bill could actually double the fines. [From: The New York Times]
- The iBookstore is officially opening, and will provide U.S. iPad owners with exclusive book previews, as well as text-to-speech search, highlight and bookmark capabilities. To gain access to the iBookstore, potential shoppers will need to download the 'iBooks' app. [From: Engadget]
- If it hasn't been yet become blatantly obvious, the world is officially in the grips of iPad pandemonium. Yesterday, Hyundai announced that, instead of coming with a traditional owner's manual, its luxury model Equus will include an owner's edition iPad. The promotional plan is not only creative, but could prove to be ingenious, as well. The iPad, which will feature an easy vehicle reference guide, will also reportedly schedule the car's service appointments. [From: USA Today]
- Curious and wary consumers can currently preview the iPad app selection at the iTunes store, and the offerings are certainly abundant. The App Store boasts a diverse collection of more than 2,500 apps, including AIM, Pandora, Twitterific, and a variety of books and games. [From: CNN]
- According to the stat trackers at Hitwise, Facebook is not only the most-visited site in the U.S., but has also become the most searched-for brand -- as a whole -- on the Web. So, in case anyone thought that Facebook's membership had plateaued, there is still an incredibly high number of curious people who apparently haven't yet jumped on the social networking bandwagon. This is a cool lens. I love using Squidoo to find iPad gadgets and apps. I was one of the lucky few to get my hands on an iPad last week and I must say, so far so good. It's an incredible piece of technology and I think it will change the way we read, watch movies, listen to music and more. I just want to find more apps and sites related to iPad, which seem to be hard to trace online. I found a great index of ipad websites on www.squidoo.com/ipad_tablet that lists the best apps, accessories and blogs. Any other ideas?
