'Sims' Mastermind Developing User-Generated TV Show

We've been wondering what Will Wright, creator of 'Sim City,' 'The Sims' and 'Spore,' would do once he left Maxis, the company he helped turn into a gaming powerhouse. Apparently one of the "secret projects" Wright mentioned at GDC earlier this month will have the much-lauded developer shifting to a new medium: television.

Wright developed the idea with Albie Hecht, former president of Spike TV and Nickelodeon. 'The Creation Project' isn't a complete departure from Wright's legacy, however. The proposed show, currently being courted by Current TV, would rely heavily on an application called The StoryMaker Engine. Users would use the app to create their own original stories, although details of what the finished products may look like are not known. It is rumored, however, that mobile phones will be an integral part of the platform.

After being submitted to 'The Creation Project,' the tales would then be subjected to a viewer vote, the winners of which would be broadcast as two half-hour episodes. The show is still very early in its development, and, while some have suggested that it may premier before year's end, there is little guarantee that the final product will actually resemble the loose sketch drawn up currently, or that it will air at all.
