Highlights from this morning's other big tech headlines....
- CERN will be forced to shut down the Large Hadron Collider at some point in 2011 for maintenance reasons, but the issues aren't currently stopping scientists from conducting innovative collision studies. The CERN researchers have successfully performed 7-trillion electron volt (TeV) proton collisions, which they hope will lead to the discovery of the Higgs boson, sometimes called the God particle. - Yahoo! is apparently responding to the arrival of Google Buzz with the implementation of a new social networking integration system. The ability to post Facebook status updates from the Yahoo! in-box will premiere next Monday, and the site plans to add more social networking features throughout the course of the next year. - Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez has demonstrated a clear lack of tech knowledge, particularly concerning the Web and its trends and memes. Now that seven of Venezuela's 10 most popular Twitter accounts host strong critiques of the politician, Chavez is urging his followers to become Web "soldiers" in order to fight the Internet opposition. Good luck with that. [From: Yahoo! News]
- Although Tom Cruise and John Travolta might disagree, watching 'Battlefield Earth' in its entirety either requires serious intestinal fortitude, hardcore drugs, or an intense appreciation for laughable movies. But J.D. Shapiro, the first screenwriter for the "film," has finally apologized for his role in the production of what he called "the suckiest movie ever." It's a little belated, but thanks anyway, J.D. [From: Geekosystem]
- The dearth of Hollywood creativity is rearing its ugly (lizard) head again, as Warner Bros. has announced that -- for some reason -- it's actually planning a revival of the classic monster flick 'Godzilla.' Did we learn nothing from Ferris Bueller? [From: Wired]
