iCon TV Show Takes on Steve Jobs With a Seinfeld-Style Approach
What do you get when you throw 'Mad Men,' 'Entourage,' and Steve Jobs into a blender, and hit purée? At best, you just might find yourself with a deliciously cutthroat blend of Silicon Valley satire and comedic (Ari) Gold -- which is exactly the aim of the developers of a new Jobs-based show. The forthcoming series, called 'iCon,' will be broadcast on EPIX, and will feature a lead character named Tom Rhodes, who, according to Deadline, "is a composite of Jobs and other Silicon Valley titans." Based on Newsweek columnist Dan Lyons's fake Steve Jobs blog, the show will be captained by Larry Charles, whose writing and directing resume includes 'Curb Your Enthusiasm,' 'Seinfeld' and 'Borat.' According to Charles, 'iCon' will be "nothing less than a modern Citizen Kane, a scabrous satire of Silicon Valley and its most famous citizen."
It remains to be seen just how much of Jobs is actually in the lead character, and which other specific "titans" are embedded into the purported "study of ego, power and greed." And while it's hard for us to imagine any fictionalized rendering of Steve Jobs's life that could possibly be as entertaining as Jobs's real life, we trust that, with Charles and his comedic street cred behind the wheel, 'iCon' will be in good hands.
