Text Messaging Tricks Invigorate Your 'Dumb Phone'

Use Text Messaging to Get the Most Out of Your
We spend a lot of time discussing the various capabilities of smartphones and the apps available for them, but the truth of the matter is that not everyone has a smartphone. In fact, the vast majority of people don't. Fortunately, though, "dumb phone" owners don't have to miss out on all the fun, thanks to the versatility of SMS.

The blog Make Use Of highlights several ways that you can use text messaging to stay connected via social networks like Twitter. In particular, Make Use Of looked at the services Posterous, HelloTXT and Ping.FM, all of which can update multiple sites, such as Flickr and Facebook, simultaneously. You can even use hash tags with some of them so to specify which sites a text message updates.

This article is just the first in a series on "how to make your regular phone smarter with SMS/MMS," so we expect to see the scope broadened to include less leisurely pursuits in future installments. For example, you can check your schedule and add appointments to Google Calendar, perform Google searches, add tasks to your Remember the Milk account, and use Buxfer to track expenses -- all via text message. And, if you don't mind memorizing basic commands and a few names, you can do much more through Twitter.

So hit up the source link, and periodically check Make Use Of for yet more tips. Remember, iPhone owners don't get to have all the fun. [From: Make Use Of, Via: Lifehacker]
