Setting Up E-Mail

Configuring your e-mail account can seem daunting, but most BlackBerry models have an easy-to-run setup program, either on the homescreen or in the 'Set Up Wizard.' If you are turning on your phone for the first time, the 'Set Up Wizard' may just automatically run. If not, head to the 'Set Up' icon, which looks like a phone with a gear next to it, and select it. Depending on your personal preferences, or phone type, either the 'E-mail' or 'Phone Settings' icon will appear, and you can find the e-mail setup through this option.

1. When the options appear, scroll down and choose 'I want to create or add an e-mail address,' then click 'next.'

2. Earlier phone models like the Pearl may require you to enter your PIN. You can find it in the main menu, by clicking the 'Options' icon and then selecting 'Status.' This will verify your phone. If you have a newer phone, you will be prompted to the terms of agreement page, provided by your carrier.

3. If you're setting up your account with a business e-mail, you'll first need to speak with your company's network administrator to get specific security and server information. Once you've done so, choose the 'work email account with BlackBerry Enterprise Server' option.

4. If you are adding a personal e-mail address (one you already use, like Gmail or Yahoo), after accepting the legal agreement, just enter the address and the password you use for your personal account. Click 'next,' and the BlackBerry will confirm if the address has been used. Click 'OK' to add another e-mail address.

5. To create a BlackBerry-specific address -- perhaps to have a single, dedicated e-mail address just for your phone -- select the 'Create A BlackBerry Email Address' option.

6. Once you have entered all of your e-mail addresses and information, hit the red 'close' button to exit. Assuming you entered the correct information, you should be all set.

Remember: You can add between 7-10 addresses, depending on your model.
