Israeli Soldier Posts Military Details on Facebook, Cancels West Bank Raid

Sensitive military information ranks pretty high on the list of things that should never be posted on Facebook. In fact, military operations pretty much define 'classified.' But, according to an AP report posted on Fox News, an Israeli soldier caused military officials to abort a raid on a West Bank village when he posted details about the operation on his Facebook Wall. The unnamed soldier wrote a comment stating troops were planning on "cleaning up" the location. Other Israeli soldiers noticed the comment on the social networking site, and reported it to their commanding officers.

Fearing hostiles had also read the comment, the Israeli military called off the mission. The foolish soldier was served with a court-martial and thrown in jail for 10 days. In order to prevent future gaffes, the military released a statement Wednesday that announced a campaign warning against the dangers of sharing classified information on the Web.

A little discretion goes a long way. It's okay (albeit annoying) to post your latest Farmville accomplishments, but when it comes to sensitive military information, most things are best left not posted. [From: AP/Fox News]
