Japanese Artists Builds Mario Sculptures and Mosaics From Old Skateboards

As every skater knows, you acquire quite a number of skateboards in a lifetime. But what exactly becomes of all those old and unusable decks that pile up around your place? Well, one Japanese artist has found a unique (and geeky) way to recycle them into art.
According to Kotaku, artist Haroshi just unleashed his newest project called "Harvest," which is a series of artwork that uses broken skateboard pieces to create sculptures and mosaics. Get it? He's harvesting old skate decks. Being video game geeks, our favorites are the Mario sculpture (reminiscent of a bobblehead doll), and the mosaics (straight out of the 8-bit era). But this project isn't just about our favorite plumber. Haroshi has also used these busted skateboards to create: a teddy-bear piece; something that looks like a llama with wheels; a model human foot; and still more wonderful works of recycled art. Go ahead check out his gallery and view each piece yourself. Or, if you'll be in Tokyo later this month, you can see it in person at the PLSMIS Gallery.
We've seen plenty of old electronics recycled into art, but this medium is new to us. If he wanted to get real meta and really blow our minds, he'd get to work on a 'Tony Hawk's Pro Skater' mosaic. [From: Kotaku]
