Demo Reel Shows Just How Much Green Screen Is on TV

We're used to seeing atrocious amounts of green-screened scenes in big budget films. In flicks like 'Star Wars: The Phantom Menace' and 'Sin City,' there probably isn't a single thing, other than the actors, that wasn't added in post production. What we were truly amazed to find out, though, is the number of TV shows that use green-screen trickery to flesh out outdoor environments.
A Tumblr blog called That's How it Happened found a great demo reel from Stargate Studios that demonstrates all the popular TV shows in which its green screen chops are put to the test. Sure, some of the examples are obvious, like burning ships and Mars landings, but even seemingly mundane street sequences are often completely faked. From what we can tell, almost the entirety of 'Ugly Betty' takes place on a sound stage against a green backdrop. How about that for some ugly truth? [From: That's How it Happened, via: Kottke]
