The Photo Marketing Association (PMA) kicks off its annual convention on February 21st, so get ready for loads of new camera news. First out of the gates this year is Samsung, announcing its new top-of-the-point-and-shoot-line TL500. Priced at $449.99, the TL500 lands between the prosumer level of the DSLR and the point-and-shoot. This type of camera offers the advantages of full manual controls, better lenses than most point-and-shoots, and a more compact and portable body than its DSLR brethren. Outfitted with a 28mm wide-angle f/1.8 lens, the TL500 also comes with a 3-inch swiveling AMOLED screen.
Similar to
Canon's competing G11 compact camera, the TL500 doesn't shoot HD; a frustrating choice when HD capability is increasingly standard in point-and-shoot and SLR digital cameras. Look for the camera to hit stores sometime in Spring 2010.
