Google Introduces Translation Feature to 'Goggles' App

According to the Google Translate Blog, the company introduced a Google Goggles prototype at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona that instantly translates text from German-to-English. Simply snap a picture of the text with your Android's camera, and it's instantly sent to a Google server that completes the translation using an optical character recognition (OCR) engine. Judging by the video demonstration after the break, this new feature works quickly too. Unfortunately, it can only translate German-to-English right now. But according to Google, there are plans in place to expand the service to work with all 52-languages that are supported on Google Translate. In other words, foreign language dictionaries would become pretty irrelevant.
Now, if Google would just bring this app to the iPhone. It would not only make ordering at restaurants easier, but we wouldn't have to be embarrassed by asking locals (or Android owners) for directions on vacation. [From: Google Translate Blog]
