Google Hacks Traced Back to Computers at Chinese Universities

According to an Associated Press report on Huffington Post, unnamed investigators followed the digital trail back to computers located at two Chinese universities -- Shanghai Jiaotong University and Lanxiang Vocational School. The former has one of the country's best computer science programs, and the latter often trains computer scientists for the Chinese military. The investigation, which was first reported by The New York Times, suggests that the attacks could have actually started 10 months ago. If this report is true, it seems that evidence continues to suggest the Chinese government's involvement in the December attacks.
Google hasn't commented yet. The company is still negotiating with China to decide whether or not its search engine will remain active in the country, but we're certain this news will bring a new dynamic to these talks. It'd be a shame for Google to pull out of China, but if the company can't operate freely and without fear of attack, it seems like the only option. [From: AP on Huffington Post]
