Obama Looking to Hire a White House Twitterer

Balancing two wars, steep unemployment rates, and an expansive healthcare overhaul doesn't leave Barack Obama a whole lot of time for anything -- including, apparently, Twitter. This may explain why the President is reportedly looking to hire an official White House twitterer, according to the Wall Street Journal. Mia Cambronero currently holds the vaunted position of social networks manager for the Democratic National Committee, but said in an e-mail that she'll soon be vacating her "infamous role as 'Barack Obama's twitterer,'" leaving the spot open for the pithiest politico in the land. According to the job description, the new social media minion will manage not only Obama's Twitter account, but his Facebook and MySpace accounts, as well.

Before you start polishing up your 140-character resumés, though, you should know that the job might not be as easy as it seems. As the DNC says, "this isn't a 9-5 sort of job," and we believe it. Explaining something as thornily complex as healthcare reform is difficult for anyone -- and even more so on Twitter. It's not like the new hire will become the Rahm Emanuel of the social networking world, either; but, as Obama himself proved during the 2008 campaign, Twitter, Facebook and even simple e-mail communication have become increasingly crucial in reinforcing political loyalties and building up grassroots support. We're just amazed that we live in a time where anyone could land a relatively legit job in the White House, simply because of their Twitter savoir-faire. And we kinda love it.
