I'm not sure of the use of the banana, but the toothpaste is obvious. They had this incredible machine that used two different polishing disks to take out scratches. When the guy finished with my gouged up DVDs they played and looked like brand-new. Put just enough to cover the tip of your index finger and firmly rub in a circular motion over the visibly scratched area. You only need to apply to the most deeply scratched areas. Wash with plain water and dry with paper towels with a minimum of rubbing with the towel can scratch the disc all over again.
