Microsoft Already Taking Shots at Google Buzz, Clinton Tweets Mid East Visit

Highlights from this morning's other big tech headlines....

  • Google's new social networking system Buzz is already getting heat from competitors. Thanks for clearing that up, Microsoft. [From: Tech Crunch]
  • Twitter is slowly emerging as a legitimate news source and as a way for instantly release significant information. • YouTube has been diversifying its programming material recently, and the next content addition to the site will apparently be the America's Cup Regatta. The world's oldest, active international competition (predating even the modern Olympics) has stagnated in popularity since the days of "Mr. America's Cup" Dennis Conner, so perhaps expanded Web coverage can help the sport attract a new, younger fanbase. • Rhapsody, a monthly online music subscription service, has struggled to compete against iTunes and other pay-as-you-go sites. Viacom and Real Networks, the two companies that own the service, are apparently positioning it to be sold as they have restructured Rhapsody as an independent company. [From: All Things Digital]
  • The Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (whew) has recognized the powerful educational benefits of video games. The Institute has bestowed a $3.9 million grant to Yale University so that researchers can create a game that effectively teaches kids about HIV prevention. [From: Digital Media Wire]
  • BMC Neurology sponsored a study to investigate the effects of media consumption on teens, and the group has determined that listening to loud music for an extended period of time can cause headaches. Wow. If someone were to study useless studies, this one would probably be the first mentioned. [From: Live Science]
