Fashion Week Tempts Teens Who Hack Their Way Into an Invite
Getting invited to New York Fashion Week shows is hard enough, trust us (i.e. me). Moreover, getting the invites to haute designers like Cushnie et Ochs, Alexander Wang and Erin Fetherston is practically impossible, and requires a minor amount of celebrity to accomplish. But two Vermont high school seniors who have over-indulged in a little too much 'Gossip Girl' have decided to take matters into their own hands, by hacking into one of New York's most prestigious PR firms to add their own names to highly coveted guest lists.Becca Shumlin (whose father is apparently running for governor in Vermont) and her best friend, and designer, Remy Renzullo, wrote to request tickets to Alexander Herchcovitch's show being put on by PR team BPCM. Using the gubernatorial plug and the mention of a magazine that Becca 'edits' (we can't find evidence of it online), the pair wrote in and were discovered as guests on some of BPCM's most guarded lists. Gawker reports no one knew how the pair got there and that they were added somewhere in Vermont. Hrm.
BPCM called Remy, who confirmed, yes, he hacked the PR company, added his name, and had every intention of showing up and sneaking in. No word on whether or not this will negatively affect Becca's father's campaign -- but it's difficult to be "of the people" when your daughter is photographed in Topshop Unique.
Having worked in fashion before, the rule is: if you are in a place or have access to something you know you shouldn't, shut up, sit straight, and act natural. [From: Racked NY and Gawker]
