Facebook Hole Reveals Friend's App Activity

The applications and games dashboards are expected to be rolled out to general users soon, and we hope that Facebook will patch this flaw before the release. But for now, anyone can install the Facebook Developer app and see what their friends are doing. We set the developer's app up, and it works just as described. Without some tasteful censoring the screen shot above would reveal which of our friends was interested in determining what deadly sin they were. Facebook doesn't prompt users to ask if they want to share that information, which makes it all that more disconcerting that you can easily launch the applications dashboard and see which of your friends is using the 'How Perverted are You?' app.
The dashboards were expected to be part of a solution for doing away with the notifications system, but until it finds an appropriate way to keep application activity private, we're with All Facebook -- "Facebook should shut off the dashboard." [From: All Facebook]

It's very simple. Firstly, hunt down every last Facebook Privacy setting and lock it down to its most private setting. (There are many of them spread across many options pages.) Secondly, don't use ANY Facebook apps! Most of them are mindless wastes of time anyway. Thirdly, don't post any information that would make you uncomfortable if it was made completely public. Problem solved. It's up to YOU to protect YOUR PRIVACY. Don't expect any corporation to do it for you.

Perhaps you should just stop using it...

Yes, I could stop driving my car out of fear I could crash, or stop cutting vegetables with a knife out of fear I might cut myself, or stop using all electricity because, yes people have been electrocuted before, or stop using Facebook out of fear that information posted there could be used against me. Rather, I choose to drive as safely and as aware of my surroundings as I can, to cut away from myself and to not do something stupid like touch an electrical outlet or post private information on a social networking site! Like the car, the knife and the electricity, Facebook is dangerous if not used wisely, but is very useful when used with the proper caution. Facebook has re-connected me with friends I've not heard from in decades, and helped me meet members of my extended family that I never knew existed. So, no, I'm not going to "just stop using it." I'm going to continue to use it in a responsible manner, which includes locking down all the privacy settings, a complete personal ban on all apps, and not posting anything that would bother me if everyone read it. It's called "personal responsibility" and if everyone practiced it, we wouldn't have to constantly look to the government and corporations to guard our privacy.

They recently 'polled' us, "Notifications are leaving. DO you like this change?" By the time it reached me, 97% of us voted NO. I'm sure they'll ignore us. They always do.

Facebook is counting on people that do not do all the privacy settings. All these social networkinging sites are not just for connecting with friends or family. Everything on all sites on the internet are monitored I dont care what company privacy settings or rules they have. They will turn all information about anything you do over on a drop of a dime if you dont think so you are only fooling yourself. just think about profiles everyone fills out everything under sun about themselves when they dont have to. yes information can be found out about someone its not hard but why give it out. All the apps like the one above & others thats all they are. getting info just in a different direction. Well I'm not worried, everyone should be. The internet is Big Brother on steriods. we have all fell into the trap. even if things are deleted you are mistaken. Whats goes on the internet stays on the internet. on the google settings theres a box that if you didnt know about SHOW HIGHLIGHTED TEXT IN SEARCH BOX. so every text someone copies to save goes into the internet search box.

...and of course, you have proof that you can back this up with, right? Please post it instead of just shyt talking, so we can actually believe you and you don't just come across as some terminally paranoid loon that thinks everyone cares about what he/she is doing. Got news, no one cares.

Using common sense and seeing a psychiatrist to get some medication for that feeling that anyone actually gives a damn about your day to day business is also a good place to start.

well I will put ever ones mind to rest, it was just opinion. How easy it is to jump on people for just that. The opinion police have arrived. I will not back down from companies handed over information on the drop of a dime for any excuse though. well the best excuse ever is well if i'm not doing anything wrong no need to worry. As for being paranoid everyone is alittle even if one wants to admitted or not.
nalta68 thank you.
