Apple Rumor Roundup: Will We See an iSlate Tomorrow?

Unless you've just woken up from a 30-year coma, you're well aware that tomorrow Apple will be unveiling its "latest creation." What exactly that is remains to be seen, but the rumor mill has been grinding out a speculated iTablet (or iPad, or iSlate, or iSlab) with the conviction of R. Kelly cranking out sexually explicit slow jams.

The Apple branded tablet is rumored to measure 10 inches, run iPhone apps, have 3G and Wi-Fi, and, according to a tweet from Media_Markt, a price tag of €899 (about $1,300, but that will likely translate to $900). Of course, if and when such a device lands, it won't come as much of a surprise. As our friends at Engadget have pointed out, the idea of a tablet device has been floating around the Cupertino campus since about 1983.

There are plenty of other rumors swirling around what Apple has in store for tomorrow's event. A 22-inch iMac with a touchscreen is supposedly in the works, as is an update to the company's iLife suite. More interestingly, though, is the suggestion that we mights see iPhone 4.0 software, which may or may not also be powering the iTablet. There's also been talk of a Verizon version of the handset. We know that AT&T's iPhone exclusivity will terminate this year and no announced deal has been struck to extend its contract. Lending a little more weight to this rumor, which resurfaces every few months, Verizon has scheduled its quarterly retail manager briefings (in which they detail upcoming devices) to coincide with Wednesday's Apple announcement. The company has asked its managers to watch a "live webcast" starting at 1 p.m. EST. Hey, isn't that when the Apple event kicks off?

You'll just have to check back here tomorrow to find out if Apple does indeed have a tablet coming to market, and if Verizon (or other carriers) are about to get a healthy dose of iPhone love. You can also follow along live with our friends at Engadget -- here.

Update: Maybe we're getting a bit presumptuous, but we think it's officially safe to say Apple is releasing a tablet tomorrow and it will run the iPhone OS. McGraw-Hill's CEO, Terry McGraw, let slip during an interview on CNBC that his company had been working with Apple and that its textbooks would be available on the Apple tablet. Skip to Around the three minute in the video below and you'll hear the following quote:
"They'll make their announcement tomorrow on this one. We have worked with Apple for quite a while. And the Tablet is going to be based on the iPhone operating system and so it will be transferable. So what you are going to be able to do now is we have a consortium of e-books. And we have 95% of all our materials that are in e-book format on that one [the iPhone]. So now with the tablet you're going to open up the higher education market, the professional market. The tablet is going to be just really terrific.
Well, thanks for doing our job for us Terry. [From: MacRumors]
