Group Sends 600 Talking, Solar-Powered Bibles to Haiti
As our military and aid organizations scramble to deliver much-needed food and clean water to Haiti, other groups are also sending goods they deem necessary. Like, according to Reuters, 600 solar-powered, talking Bibles to the island nation. The Proclaimer broadcasts a Haitian Creole version of the Holy Word in digital quality audio to 300 people at once. According to the Faith Comes By Hearing Web site, the Bibles will bring Haitians the "hope and comfort that comes from knowing God has not forgotten them through this tragedy."Look, we aren't here to trash anybody's faith. In events like this, it certainly is a positive thing. But a talking Bible doesn't feed hungry mouths. These people don't even have a place to rest their heads at night (and we're sure the Proclaimer won't make for a good pillow or roof). Sometimes folks' good intentions miss their mark by a little bit. [From: Reuters on Yahoo! UK, via: The Awl]

god i hate religous people - wouldnt this be the time to shy away from talking up the bible? With kids lying on the street dead, and decayed bodies everywhere surely this is a bad time to tell people there is a god, because if there is, hes a sadistic prick

At $100 or more that would be at least $60K, maybe more. Man, how much food would that buy? Real dumb as_es!!!

Hello. Thanks for your concern. We agree that basic needs are the first priority for the Haitians. The Bibles have been requested by both the people and the organizations working the front lines there. We can only use our funding for Bibles as that is the purpose of the donations that come in (would be illegal to use otherwise) but we are also doing our best to help insure that basic needs are met as well. After all, without those needs being met, the people won't be able to derive any comfort from the solar audio Bibles. -Faith Comes by Hearing
