Risk For Heart Disease Increases With Each Hour Spent Watching TV

We understand that there are plenty of new episodes of your favorite TV shows to watch this time of year. However, you might want to consider tuning out -- or, at least, to get up and move around the house every once in a while. According to Scientific American, a recent article in the medical journal Circulation states that a person increases his risk of dying from cardiovascular disease by 18-percent with each hour he spends in front of the boob tube. Of the 9,000 adults whose health and viewing habits researchers monitored, those who watched over four hours of TV a day were 80-percent more likely to die from heart disease than those who watched for two hours or less.
With the last season of 'Lost' on the horizon, even we aren't willing to risk life and limb to find out all the Island's secrets. (These statistics also hold true for those of us -- cough, cough -- who spend hours staring at a computer screen.) In other words, we all need to get up off our lazy butts and exercise. Besides, with DVRs, we can record shows and watch them little by little. Problem solved! [From: Scientific American]
