Old Nokia Ringtone Reimagined as Classical Piano Piece
Remember back when you just couldn't escape that iconic Nokia ringtone? Not only were those descending triplets softly cascading out of everybody's pockets and purses, once you heard it, it was pretty well near impossible to erase from your brain. Now, in the smartphone era of BBM beeps and iPhone Marimbas, this catchiest of catchy ringtones has become more of a cultural relic than anything else. Piano man Marc-André Hamelin, though, recently found a way to memorialize Nokia's trademark by using the simple tonal sequence to construct a not-so simple sounding classical composition (video after the jump). Believe it or not, it actually sounds pretty gorgeous, which is exactly the kind of tribute such a nugget of marketing genius deserves. [From: Gizmodo]

The Nokia ringtone is actually already a piece of classical music. The ringtone derives from a 13 note rendering of Francisco Tarrega's masterpiece, Gran Vals. Tarrega was a 19th-century Spanish musician considered by aficionados to be the father of the modern classical guitar http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=93_n5MID3A8
