'The Office' Ex-Intern Presents Co-Worker's 'Souls' on Artsy Photoblog

Everybody remembers the old saying, "A picture's worth a thousand words." Well, Ryan Howard (the fictional character played by B.J. Novak in 'The Office') won't let that stand. According to his artist's statement on his recently launched photoblog, Ryan wants to "strive for more" with his photos. He calls his new project "Thousand and One Words" and shoots each photo in black-and-white. Yes, it's pretentious. Yes, it's funny. And yes, this latest viral campaign wonderfully complements the mockumentary style of the popular TV show.

The black-and-white shots aren't solely from or inspired by 'The Office.' There are artsy photos of animals and sunsets. However, there are some that include our favorite cubicle workers, like the one of Darryl and Angela decorating the company Christmas tree ("Shot from the side to emphasize their differences in stature (both physical and societal)... ," Howard writes). Or, a tastefully topless shot (calm down, you only see her back) of Ryan's on-again-off-again flame, Kelly, working at her desk. Michael Scott would surely approve, as long as he got a print for his "personal use."

It's things like this, along with the countless other extras and videos on the show's Web site, that keep 'The Office' on our DVR schedule. Just don't let Jim find out about all this. He's been a bit of a buzzkill since he was promoted to co-manager. [From: Thousand and One Words, via: Kottke.org]
