Near Me Now: The Laziest Google Search Tool Yet

Near Me Now: The Laziest Google Search Tool YetGoogle is always trying to make life, and searching, easier. In fact, now that the company is getting close to its stated goal of indexing all of the world's information, it seems to have found a new directive: encouraging laziness. First, Google Mobile started letting you filter results by location using GPS. Then, the search giant let you talk-to-search. More recently, it fired up Google Goggles, which removes the need to type or talk.

How could this get any easier? Well, Google figured that making you snap a picture or point your phone at something was waaay too much work, so now Google Mobile (on the iPhone and Android) can use GPS coordinates to find what's around you. No typing, no talking, no nothing. Simply hit "Near me now" on the Google search page, and Google will automatically bring up businesses, restaurants, and the like that are nearby. Let's say you want to know about what's in your immediate vicinity, like, for instance, the bar you're standing outside right now. (Don't you think it's a little early for that?) Just hit "Near me now," and then tap "Explore right here."

It's all just one more way that location-based services and always-on Internet are making us more informed, and much, much lazier. [From: Official Google Mobile Blog]
