Since
everyone seems to be arguing over
whether or
not cell phones cause
cancer, no one seems to be paying attention to how the ubiquitous gadgets might be related to other diseases. But that might change following the release of a
study from the Florida Alzheimer's Disease Research Center, which has found that radiation from a cell phone could protect against -- and possibly reverse -- the effects of
Alzheimer's disease.
In the study, mice with Alzheimer's were exposed to electromagnetic waves from a cell phone. Apparently, the waves stimulated brain activity and erased deposits of beta-amyloid, a telltale sign of the disease. The mice, which were genetically modified to develop the beta-amyloid deposits and eventually the disease itself, were exposed to a cell phone antenna over a period of time. The mice that were genetically disposed to Alzheimer's but had not yet developed it maintained their cognitive abilities. Those who had already slipped into full rodent dementia actually regained their abilities and performed as well on cognitive tests as the mice who had never developed the disease.
Further tests are needed, and the benefits took months to become apparent in the mice, but researchers are optimistic that the experiments could lead to a viable treatment for humans. On a side note, the study failed to find any abnormal growths in the brains of the mice exposed to the radiation for months on end. Score another point for the cell-phones-cause-brain-cancer skeptics. [From:

Gadgets That Saved Lives
Getty Images
Call it a stroke of luck, the hands of fate, or a touch from God. No matter what you call it, there's no denying gadgets have helped saved some lives. So keep that gadget close by, folks. You never know when your time is up.
1) An elderly Memphis man avoided being crushed by a tree when he was forced to watch television in the kitchen because his bedroom TV lacked a digital converter box. At least one person is happy with the digital switch.
2) While hiding under a tree during a storm in England, 14-year-old Sophie Frost was struck by lightning. The bolt shot across her body instead of through it, thanks to the iPod headphones hanging from her neck. She suffered only some burns and a fright.
3) When Hans Jorgen Olsen and his sister ran across a moose in Norway, the 12-year-old didn't panic. Instead, he taunted the moose so his sister could escape, which is a move he learned while playing 'World of Warcraft.'
4) While mowing his lawn, Ronald Richard was hit in the chest by a stray .45 caliber bullet. The bullet was stopped by the Motorola RAZR clipped onto his chest, which not only saved his life but gave him one hell of a bar story.
5) After becoming lost while snowboarding, Sebastian Gomez was alone, except for his iPod. When Gomez heard a helicopter buzzing overhead,
he switched it on and waved the glowing screen in the air. Wearing night vision goggles, rescuers spotted the teenager and brought him to safety.
6) A couple of French tourists got lost on a ski trip in Switzerland. After contacting rescuers via cell phone, the batteries soon died.
Fortunately, the pair had packed their iPods before leaving home. Rescuers flying overhead spotted the lighted screen and saved both folks.
7) We've determined that a cell phone can stop a bullet, but what about an iPod? When Kevin Garrad of the 3rd Infantry Division was
struck by a bullet in Iraq, his iPod took the blow -- stopping the bullet from piercing his body armor. So, yes.
8) After blacking out in a swimming pool, a 10-year-old Welsh girl was rescued by lifeguards who saw the potentially fatal events unfolding on a set of underwater cameras that link to a computer system. 10 seconds later, the girl was rescued.
9) When chef Mark Williams was bitten on the hand by a spider while cleaning his freezer, he turned to his cell phone to help doctors identify the culprit . Williams pinged a picture to Bristol Zoo employees, who identified the arachnid, and doctors treated the bite.

So the choice is brain tumor, but sanity if I use the cell phone or Alzheimer's if I don't.....decisions, decisions!

No you misunderstood. It says score a point for the skeptics who already believe that cell phone radiation has nothing to do with causing brain tumors. It's a win win situation here.

don't place your faith on what the FDA & NIH say. animal research and vivisection is scientific fraud. this is just a vehicle to bleed and rape the taxpayers on phony useless experiments that hold no value to human development. animal and humans anatomy and physiology are different. many drugs were taken off the market due to approved data from the above agencies. the public is better served by using computer technology and in-vitro models rather than subjecting animals to cruel, painful and utlimate death studies that have relegated this country into the the number 17 stop for healthest countries worldwide.

To the writer of this article... THANKS A LOT FOR GIVING PEOPLE FREE LICENSE TO TALK ON THE PHONES IN THEIR CARS WHILE ALMOST TRYING TO KILL EVERYONE ELSE ON THE ROAD! I am so tired of dealing with people almost cutting me off or killing me while I am on the road because they can't wait until they get home to talk to someone.
JaneJan 10th 2010 2:46PM
It's obviously way too soon for there to be accepted evidence in these studies. Tomorrow it will be another story.........................

WHAT WAS THAT? I COULDN'T REMEMER WHAT THE QUESTION WAS
JimJan 11th 2010 8:31AM
Shame on you for your very ignorant comment mocking people who have this disease. Probably you wouldnt feel that way if your family member had this! you should apologize to everyone here.

Ok wil try a third time to post this, wondering now if AOL is owned by the pharmaceutical industry, because their is a study in India that Trumeric can reverse the plaque formation. Here is my third attempt to share info in a supposedly free speach forum that isnt corporately conflicted: Turmeric removes Beta amyloid plaque, something published in a study in India where the alzheimers rate is very low in the general population, yet high in the few who dont use Curry Rice, a staple in the indian diet. They found that a group of mice who were all suffering Alzheimers given high doses of Turmeric actually had 1/2 of the plaque dissappear after only a month. the other half they didnt give turmeric all had no decrease in plaque, the disease progressed. i tried this with my mom with her Dr agreeing, and she improved in one month to not looking at a list to know her childrens names. Additionally I found research that Huperizine-A increases nerve transmission ability and decreases dementia, and if you add choline and serine supplements, the memory neurotransmitters, memory further improves. Just be careful if using blood thinnners, turmeric makes the blood thinners work more, because it is also a blood thinner. As always consult a doctor who is friendly with alternative/herbal medicine. if anyone has a question please email at Fa1thful1@aol.com. Pray and hope this helps. Amen

I found your comment on turmeric more informative then the article. My mother and uncle both had Alzheimers. If there is any genetic basis to the disease, I've got a 50% chance of going that way. There is nothing funny about it, but I took care of mom and humor helped get us through the day. Turmeric is a spice, isn't it? I also noticed an increase in brain tumors, so I am skeptical about whether or not cell phones are blameless.....I apologize to anyone who thinks I was making fun of Alzheimers.

My question is... How does one identify "Dementia" in rodents?
I only wish that this could possibly cure such a terrible disease, having a mother who had altz. it's an awful position to be in.....for the person afflicted, AND the family and friends who are close to the person.

I'm living proof. I Started using a cell phone's back when it all started Analog. Brick phones ran warm to hot on your face. Hours of using on dilveries and personal use. Me and my wife worked for the cell phone giant's, so we had access to the best cell phones and unlimited airtime
Prices were very expensive back than for airtime and the monthly fee.
for example 150.00 per month 60 mins
175.00 125 mins
The lawyer's and doctor's High end clients could afford these prices but for an average joe it was expensive. I always wonder if the cell phone use has affected my health. One reason I have gone blind on the left eye due to a tumor.
What?!Jan 11th 2010 10:13AM
Alzheimer's linked to cell phone radiation? No wonder that many drivers with the cell phone are focking idiots on the road. Ban the cell phone! Just ban them all for the safety of their brain.
undrgrndgirlJan 11th 2010 12:26PM
obviously you did NOT read the article...cellphone radiation reportedly protects the brain from alzheimer's...
RobertJan 11th 2010 10:16AM
the answer is very simple dont use them, you can function fine
edsalldwJan 11th 2010 11:29AM
who funded this study? any one remember the " cranberries cause lung cancer" scare in the late 50's that turned out to be funded by the tobacco industry?
undrgrndgirlJan 11th 2010 12:25PM
thanks but i'll stick to cannabis...is good for BOTH alzheimer's and cancer...if you don't believe me go do some research insted of ranting here...
drexel6337Jan 12th 2010 10:52AM
YES.... before we get excited about this , we MUST know who is funding the testing.
It is brilliant marketing to confuse, but DEADLY if used irresponsibly.
Please get all the facts.
