World's First Washable Phone Unveiled at CES

As we switch out our calendars and head into the midst of a particularly brutal cold season, it seems like everyone's stockpiling hand sanitizer, vitamin C supplements, and other weapons to fight off swine flu and its pathogenic foot soldiers. Today comes news of the latest addition to the armory: the first ever washable and antimicrobial cell phone.

The new Seal Cell, like its bestial namesake, is equally comfortable on land and in water (no word yet on how it handles clubbing). Seal Shield, the company that makes the waterproof phone, says the Seal Cell's amphibious nature is perfect for "regular cleaning in the sink or dishwasher" and therefore perfect for the annihilation of nasty germs and bacteria. Believe it or not (and we certainly do), cell phones are pretty gross; according to Pocket-Lint, the average cell phone houses about 25,000 germs per square inch, five times more than the average toilet. The Seal is supposed to dive into the market sometime early this year, but it'll be on display this week at CES, preening in all its sterilized glory. [From: Pocket-Lint]
