Resistance Is Futile: Architectural Casemod Makes Us Swoon

We love it when the worlds of nerdiness and design collide. Compulsive case-modder Nick Falzone recently built this wooden mini-ITX mod dubbed Chiaroscuro, based on the Beijing Digital Building from the 2008 Olympic games. He lifted the circuit-like depressions from the facade of the building for the outside of his case, resulting in a modernized Borg cube form that glows from the inside.

Two of the sides are movable, in order to direct the heat emanating from the PC's innards. Falzone built a second structure beneath the main cube to house a DVD drive, power supply unit, and most of the wiring. The motherboard, hard drive, CPU, memory, and other parts are contained in the top. Check out all the images of Chiaroscuro's production and an exclusive interview with Falzone at Bit-Tech.net.

This case makes even the die-hard Apple fanboys at Switched swoon. We're suddenly thinking of all sorts of architectural possibilities for casemods. Could someone please build us a PC housing for Mies van der Rohe's Farnsworth House? Or Frank Lloyd Wright's Oak Park home? Or just about anything by Will Alsop? Seriously, we'll pay.
