BlackBerry Users Hit With Second Outage in a Week
Reaserch in Motion (RIM) just can't seem to catch a break. Just five short days after the BlackBerry Internet Service went down for several hours, North and South American users found themselves again without e-mail. This time, the outage lasted for nearly eight hours and, according to some reports, even caused problems for some European and Asian customers. In a statement e-mailed to us, RIM said that "based on preliminary analysis, it currently appears that the issue stemmed from a flaw in two recently released versions of BlackBerry Messenger." RIM has issued a fix for the versions believed to have caused the issue -- 5.0.0.55 and 5.0.0.56 -- but the company was careful to explain it was still investigating the root cause.
RIM apologized for the inconvenience, but refused to comment further, leaving plenty of questions unanswered. For one, with outages becoming more and more frequent (Is this the third or fourth in the last two months?), does the company have an actionable plan to prevent future disruptions? Are the recent spate of outages connected in any way? And how does it plan to stave off pressure from Apple and Google when it can't even keep its mobile e-mail service (its supposed strong suit) up and running? Anyone that goes through 3 BB in 6 months has got to be doing something abnormal with it. I have used the same BB for years without a problem.
A couple of outages does not make something unreliable. If we said that everyone in this Planet is unreliable and we should chuck it. Nothing is ever 100%. If you believe that I've got some swamp land in Florida to sell you.
My suggestion is for folks to get over their hidden agendas of pushing their own personal preferences and look at something objectively. If you prefer another device please switch and let others decide for themselves if they like it or not. Results will speak for itself without the little biases trying to be implanted by comments like this one people rarely read.

ReallY? did you know you are not supposed to shower with them?? How you can do that is beyond me. I am ROUGH as heck on mine, and its never let me down!

I just bought a Blackberry and it is the best phone that I have ever owned. I have not had any problems with it at all with the exception of a couple of hiccups that occurred; they were problems that were caused by my own lack of knowledge. When it comes time for me to get a new phone it will probably be a Blackberry...
