Average U.S. Surfer Online For 13 Hours a Week, Says New Poll
We bloggers are well aware of the fact that we spend more time online than is normal, or maybe even healthy. Still, while plugging away in the dark depths of our mothers' basements, we like to comfort ourselves by saying (to the life-size Spock figurines that keep us company), "Yeah, but these days, everybody's online a lot, right?" We should've realized that Spock's silence was just his quiet, Vulcan way of saying, "Absolutely not, dork boy."According to CNET, Harris Interactive reported today that the average U.S. Web user surfs the Net for *gulp* 13 hours a week. That includes time logged during work, and everything! Even the most plugged-in group, 30- to 39-year olds, averaged a mere 18 hours per week in 2009. In fact, a full 20-percent of U.S. adults, according to the poll anyway, don't go online at all! Give us a minute while we take a few deep breaths and squint into the sunshine that taunts us from outside our bleary windows.
We will point out, though, that the average U.S. dude or dudette watches a staggering 37 hours of television a week. That does make us feel a little bit better. At the end of a workday, it seems that everybody plugs in and tunes out in one way or another, and most of us watch far less TV than that. So, what exactly do we do to unwind after a long, hard day of Web-surfing, you ask? Roof houses and file expense reports, of course. [From: CNET]
