Mom Calls 911 Over Son's Gaming Addiction

Mom Calls Cops Over Son's Gaming Addiction
We've seen the cops called over video game-related incidents before. It's just that the fuzz usually gets involved only when someone's committed an actual crime -- too often murder. But no killing was required (at least not in real life) for Boston mom, Angela Mejia, to call 911 on her 14-year-old son. It seems that Mejia just couldn't deal with her boy's constant gaming.

According to the Boston Herald, the 49-year-old single mother of four passed the door to her son's room and found him sitting there playing 'Grand Theft Auto' at 2:30 a.m. -- several hours after instructing him to turn it off and go to bed. Mejia had apparently had enough, pulled the plug on the PlayStation and called the police. Even stranger -- the police actually responded and convinced the child to go to bed.

Lawrence Kutner, former co-director of the Center for Mental Health and Media at Massachusetts General Hospital and author of 'Grand Theft Childhood,' told the Herald, "Clearly, it's a very, very rare situation for someone to call the cops... " over video game addiction. But between suicide threats, murders, and the arrival of Internet rehab centers, it's clear that technology obsessions are becoming a very serious matter.
