All We Don't Want For X-Mas 4

DON'T WANT: Under-Powered Netbook
Radio Shack Coby NBPC1022XP Netbook, $300-$500
We've singled out the not-unreasonably-speced Coby for disparagement only because it's representative of the dozens of faceless, under-powered netbooks that crowd and confuse buyers. The whole purpose of a cheapo, small lappy is a tiny package that offers maximum connectivity and utility wherever you go. The Coby doesn't fit the bill for the price.

DO WANT:
HP Mini 311, $270 (with 1-year Verizon contract)
Now we're cooking with napalm: Unlike the generic Coby and its cohorts, the Mini 311 has a powerful-enough graphics chip to play high definition video and video games, a larger 11.6-inch screen, weighs less at 3.22 pounds, has wireless-everywhere internet access (including internationally), 2 gigabytes of RAM, and Windows 7 instead of XP -- all for less cash. This may be the bargain of the season.
