David Lynch Details His Close 'Jedi' Call

'Star Wars' fans love to speculate on missed opportunities, particularly when it comes to the franchise's inclusion of certain characters. Jar Jar Binks wasn't the first George Lucas creature to infuriate thousands of nerds, though. Hordes of hardcore 'Return of the Jedi' aficionados continue to lambaste the usage of a planet occupied by cute and cuddly Ewoks, instead of the infinitely cooler, butt-kicking Wookiees that were supposedly originally intended for the role.

But, the consternation over the Wookiee slight may pale in comparison to the backlash which will certainly ensue from recently disclosed directorial information. Some 'Jedi' fans may already be aware of the longstanding rumors that phenomenal and eclectic director David Lynch was once considered to helm the film, but the reasons for Lynch's lack of interest in the project have been vaguely attributed to Lynch thinking it was a "Lucas thing."

During an interview last month with FORA.tv, Lynch finally provided some insight into his initial meeting with Lucas, and the somewhat bizarre, spy-like ordeal that featured an Italian sports car, a restaurant that only served salad, and a steadily intensifying headache. Check out the video for an incredible and candid glimpse into that extraordinary encounter between two indelible film icons, but be prepared, again, to lament what might have been.
