It may not be as hard as
pulling the plug on Grandma, but deciding to put your Facebook account out of its misery can be a difficult decision for any red-blooded social networker. Sure, your profile may not be the young stallion that it was a few years ago, but you want to believe there's still some fire behind those vacant, glazed-over eyes staring back at you... but what if there's not? The choice, in fact, doesn't have to be that difficult.
That's because a new
death panel site is here to help.
Seppukoo.com, named after
seppuku, the Japanese ritual of honorable suicide, is designed to help users free themselves from the shackles of Facebook, and to put an end, once and for all, to their Facebook existence. As the site explains, much as seppuku "restores the samurai's honor as a warrior, seppukoo.com deals with the liberation of the digital body." Seppukoo helps you plunge the sword even deeper into the abdomen of your online spirit, with five easy steps to digital nirvana. You can create a customized memorial page in honor of your deceased account, and the website will even break the news to all your virtual friends and family.
As
Fox News explains, though, Seppukoo's gaze extends far beyond merely helping forlorn Facebookers. It seem to be part of a growing movement aimed at toppling Facebook, which is nothing more than a machine that commodifies social interaction and turns it into profit. By providing a platform for people to disconnect, they hope to transform "the individual suicide experience into an exciting 'social' experience."
We think there's something a bit suspicious about an anti-social networking site that sure looks a lot like... a social networking site. With all the message boards and "memorial pages" and stuff, could this just be the new Facebook for Facebook haters? Some dark, underground suicide cult? We're thinking Zuckerberg voodoo dolls. We're thinking animal sacrifice. We're thinking we're gonna keep our Facebook respirators firmly plugged in and humming right along. [From:

I find Facebook the least pushy service, the most inobstrusive.

How depressing... Some people are such babies, can't even delete their own account...
"Have a really cool radical chic experience." Really?
