Man Learns of His Death Through Prank Facebook Group
Awkward and uncomfortable comedy has become quite the rage recently, as shows like 'Curb Your Enthusiasm,' 'The Office,' and 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia' have become incredibly popular and common. There's a fine line between that type of squirm-inducing hilarity and just being blatantly stupid, though, and that line gets crossed every day on Facebook. That absence of humor most frequently appears in idiotic groups, whose dullard administrators apparently have difficulty discerning between hilarity and depravity. It may not be as abhorrent as a pro-rape group or an anti-Semitic group, but an English Facebook member recently decided to prank one of his friends by telling everyone that the man was dead. Hiiiii-larious!!!
According to the Daily Mail, Daniel Kidd started a memorial page as prank on his (most likely former) friend Dan Evans, and posted that Evans had died in an electrical accident at work. Almost immediately, the group reportedly attracted hundreds of bereaved guests, who left 600 messages on the memorial page. Some of the visitors even began to offer condolences to Dan's family members, including a shocked brother who was traveling in Australia. Kidd has since apologized for his moronic hi-jinx, which he thought "would be funny." Well, it will be interesting to hear if he thinks the inevitable "Daniel Kidd is a Huge Tool" group is hilarious, as well. [From: The Daily Mail]

People are sick and what exactly is FACEBOOK doing to deter these "groups"???? As far as I can see, this networking site is turning into a site that is manifesting nothing more than criminals. Change the rules, change the terms & conditions...do SOMETHING. Do YOUR part in making sure Facebook is SAFE for kids just looking to play around with their friends and for adults using it for social and professional networking. So far, this has not happened. Pathetic.

holy overreaction batman. anyone who TRUSTS content from facebook is absolutely moronic. the site is not meant for serious professional or reliable transfer of information, its meant for entertaining social interaction. I can't believe 600 people simply jumped off the proverbial cliff together without calling the man's family. if they don't know the man well enough to be able to VERIFY whether or not he passed away, they can't be very great friends, can they? if you believe all the groups you see on facebook you're probably being slowly crushed to death under the weight of late night tv scam products. if you have small children on facebook, get off your damn computer and go play in traffic. your self-righteous idiocy is whats damned pathetic.

A better idea would have been to put in his own name instead of "former friend Dan Evans"

This isn't a "group" on Facebook, it's a memorial page. Memorial pages are members Facebook pages transformed after death for their friends and family to commemorate them. You can create a group for anything, it's really not that big a deal. What Dan did is much more sinister.

Oh please, take the stick out of your butts people. It's Facebook, not real life, people take it too seriously. And don't forget, everything is funny in the right context. EVERYTHING.

Only 600 people duped? The other millions of idiots on Facebook must not have gotten the message.
