Highlights from this morning's other big tech headlines....
- Since Twitter obviously lends itself to ambiguous statements, overtly mysterious posts rarely attract attention, unless of course they pertain to the iPhone. Eldar Murtazin of Mobile Review has created an escalating media scuttlebutt by tweeting that the next-gen iPhone may, in fact, be in development. [From: Engadget]
- Mozilla's Firefox has been around for more than five years and has been downloaded over one billion times. It seems that the massively popular browser may actually be close to releasing a mobile version, which it hopes to preview within the next few weeks. [From: CNET]
- After Mountain Dew, Taco Bell, and seemingly every other U.S. corporate entity went "extreme" back in the '90s, the whole "X" fad just got incredibly lame. That apparently doesn't matter to Epson and the 'Extreme Gamer' though, so check out this ridiculously late-to-the-party ad for the EH-TW 450 projector. [From: Engadget]
- Playing college sports requires a significant amount of time and travel, so to help its athletes keep up, the University of South Florida is establishing a laptop loaner program with 460 MacBook Pros. While some might claim this practice is giving the USF athletes an unfair advantage, at least the school isn't just giving them away for free. [From: TUAW]
- Google's search engine market share increased again in November, as the site hosted almost 72-percent of all U.S. searches. The rise didn't come at the expense of newcomer Bing, though, which seems to holding steady at around 10-percent, while Yahoo! continues to lose ground, slipping to 16-percent. - Ben Stiller has capitalized on 'American Idol' host Ryan Seacrest's massive Twitter fandom (2.5 million followers) before, and he's going back to the Seacrest wheelhouse in order to drum up support for the 'Stillerstrong' charity campaign. [From: Mashable]
