AT&T Ranks Last in Consumer Reports Customer Satisfaction Survey

While AT&T's issues with dropped calls, spotty coverage, and achingly slow data in major metropolitan areas like New York and San Francisco are well documented, to hear that even in smaller markets AT&T is struggling to meet the demand placed on its network does not bode well for the company. AllThingsD (and many) lay the blame squarely at the feet of the iPhone: AT&T was simply not equipped to handle the influx of customers and the increase in use of data services.
AT&T defended itself by telling AllThingsD that the feedback in the survey was anecdotal and provided by a "self-selected group of subscribers." But it's becoming clear that AT&T is struggling to meet demand regardless of whether you own an iPhone or any other handset in its stable, and unless the company takes drastic action soon, it may start hemorrhaging customers. I guess everything is easier on us people in the rural areas. I've been with AT&T for about 4-5 years, now, and it's coverage has been great, for me. Sure, my handset is EDGE only (Blackberry 8900), but it does exactly what I want it to.
With customer service, I treat every customer rep like a human being. In doing so, I've shaved up to $180 of unnecessary charges off my family plan (mainly due to one caller who would call the other line, she is mentally disabled).
I almost switched to Sprint, but I just like AT&T too much.

I never had a dropped call until I switched to AT&T. I didn't know what people were complaining about until then. I love the iPhone, but hate AT&T. Not so much their coverage, but the customer service when problems arise. They have the same issues with their landline customers as well. Since becoming the "new" AT&T, their customer service level plummeted. I have had line issues for 18 months and am still waiting for a very late service tech to look at the DSL line. That problem has been going on for 5 months.
As a once fine company, they have fallen far from grace in my eyes. I wish I had an alternative in my area for the landlines and DSL.

I had an iphone for a week, returned it so it reversed my contract and then got the iphone 3GS, returned it because the costumer service was terrible (and the phone mind you...G1>iphone) I had AT&T for like a month, and dealt with their billing dept. for 3 months...AT&T IS THE WORST!

It's a shame that it comes down to only four companies.
