If you ask us, hands-on
education is the best way to learn. Along that line of thinking,
Kokoro, a Japanese robotics company also known for this
creepy bot, unveiled an exciting new kit for
students at the International Robot Exhibition 2009.
According to Akihabara News, 'Human-Type Head Basic' teaches students how to build their own robotic head -- complete with movable mouth and eyes (which also function as camera lenses). The company wants to show students that joining together simple mechanisms can result in complex functions -- as evidenced by the expressions on the robot's face. To drive this point home, Kokoro slapped some prosthetics on one of the models to make
the robot look like a real girl. While her facial expressions are certainly realistic (a smile, her mouth open in shock), the end result is more creepy than anything else.
Judging by its laundry list of specs, we're assuming this kit is meant for college engineering students. With all those motors and pneumatic devices, this robotic head wouldn't be too easily mastered by high-schoolers. Well,
unless you're this dude. [From:
