The Daily Engadget: Project Natal Rumors, Laser-Guided Robot Wheelchairs

Our friends over at Engadget obsessively cover everything new in gadgets and consumer electronics, which is why we compile this daily roundup of their top stuff (or, at least, what we think is tops). For more details on any of these stories, click on the Engadget links in each story below.

Project Natal Launching November 2010?
Microsoft's highly anticipated motion-capture accessory for the XBox 360 is rumored to have a launch date of November 2010, and 14 games are supposedly ready for the debut. Price points seem to vary, but word is that it'll run under $100.

Laser-Guided Wheelchair Being Developed
After last year's buzz over the laser-guided, self-docking wheelchair developed at Lehigh University, the National Science Foundation bestowed a CAREER award on associate professor John Spletzer. He and his team are now revising the wheelchair by implementing 3-D maps and camera sensors to better navigate dense urban environments.

New Linux Variation Provides Easy Computing for the Elderly
Former 'Blue Peter' host Valerie Singleton has partnered with Wessex Computers to create a streamlined Linux desktop for the elderly. Aptly dubbed SimplicITy, the interface provides basic Web, e-mail, and chat, as well as video tutorials by Singleton herself.

Intel Launches 'Reader' for the Reading-Challenged
The new Intel Reader boasts a high-resolution, 5-megapixel camera for scanning huge swaths of text, which a computerized voice then reads back to the user. Aimed at the blind and the dyslexic, the Reader carries a staggering $1,499 price tag.

Esquire Launches Augmented Reality Issue
The latest high-tech gimmick from Esquire has hit newsstands in the form of its Augmented Reality Issue. For the cost of the cover price, readers can wave the magazine in front of a webcam to get all sorts of neat effects. Check out the video at Engadget for a walk-through of the interactive interface, featuring gratuitous appearances by Robert Downey, Jr.
