Woman Accused of Posting Child's Number on Craigslist Sex Ad

Craigslist has long been home to sketchy activity. But the latest scandal involving the notoriously lawless classified ad site might just take the cake.

According to a report by WCBS in New York, Margery Tannenbaum, a Long Island social worker (seriously, a social worker), is facing charges of aggravated harassment and endangering the welfare of a child. Prosecutors claim that Tannenbaum, 40, placed an ad for sex on Craiglist, and gave the phone number of an unaware 9-year-old girl as the contact. Twisted enough, sure. But that creepiness is alleged to have been part of some convoluted revenge plot aimed at the girl, who had allegedly gotten in an argument with Tannenbaum's daughter. Eager to defend her daughter's honor, Mama Tannenbaum allegedly hit the Web, created an e-mail account under the super-creative name of "lacethong23@yahoo.com," placed a suggestive ad on Craigslist, and then gave out the girl's name and phone number upon receiving responses.

Court documents claim that the girl did indeed receive several calls at home. Awkwardness, as you can imagine, promptly ensued. One guy called and got the girl's mom on the other end. When she told him she was the girl's mother, the caller answered, "Oh, hot lady lives with foxy momma!" The mom says she then informed him that "the hot lady you are referring to is a 9-year old girl." Click.

The Suffolk County District Attorney is requesting that the state government review her social worker's license (duh), and she has been ousted from her role as fourth-grade "classroom mother" (double duh). If these charges prove to hold water in court, it would leave a scar not only on Tannenbaum's reputation, but likely on Craigslist's, as well. And, given the site's lascivious history, that would really be saying a lot. It may be time to rethink the security measures, or lack thereof, not only on Craigslist, but also on other relatively secure networking sites. They too have recently played host to some disgustingly strange parent-child behavior. [From: WCBS TV]
