Human-Size iPhones Guaranteed to Be Halloween Hit

Four geeks from Tampa -- John Savio, John Matthews, Reko Rivera, and Bobby Hartman -- recently teamed up to create human-sized and, most impressively, functional iPhone costumes. Each costume weighs around 85 pounds, and is powered by a car battery worn, we're told, between the trick-or-treater's legs. Hooking up an iPhone 3GS to a 42-inch LCD screen effectively turns your average Halloweener into a bona fide human iPhone (see video, above). The two costumes took about three weeks to assemble, and cost the guys a handsome sum of $2,000. Still, they claim to have absolutely "no regrets."
Two years ago, according to Savio, Rivera and Hartman managed to create a costume with a 37-inch LCD screen. That screen was hooked up to an iPod so it displayed looping video footage of an iPhone screen in use. Inspired, the four set out to go further, and were able to incorporate real-time user input into this year's version. The only catch? The human iPhone doesn't feature a touchscreen. (Sigh.)
It's probably out of the Halloween costume budget for most of us, but we think this is pretty great, if only because it opens the door for countless creative spin-offs. With the plethora of apps and videos that you could download and display across your LCD abdomen, it's that rare kind of costume that, like an iPhone, can really be made your own.
