Monster Unveils 'Miles Davis Tribute' Earbuds

Start saving your money, all you hep cats, daddios, and beboppers. Monster Cable has unveiled limited edition headphones specifically for jazz lovers. The new Miles Davis Tribute in-ear headphones have been engineered with the "unique acoustic tones of jazz in mind," and the individually numbered pieces come with a slew of special extras.

The earbuds, which boast Monster's outside, noise-blocking 'SuperTip' ear-tips, actually come packaged in a trumpet-shaped, blue, felt carrying case that displays an etched, gold-printed Davis signature. Some of the headphones' features include a "kind of blue" cord, a silhouette of the artist, yet another signature, and a gold-and-brass finish based on the musician's actual horn. The Tributes will also come with a 50th anniversary box set of the seminal record 'Kind of Blue.'

If you're concerned that the company placed more emphasis on form than substance, worry not; the technology definitely comes with industry, and family, approval. In an exclusive story, Monster CEO Noel Lee told Switched that the bandmates in Earth, Wind, and Fire were so impressed with Monster's Turbine Pro headphones that they actually alerted the Davis family to the jazz-friendly ear pieces.

Wanting to commemorate the French opening of a Miles Davis museum exhibition, the family then approached Monster about designing some Davis-inspired 'phones. Every feature of the Tributes, according to Lee, was subsequently "validated and approved" by the Davis family. Lee also asserted that the headphones have been specifically fine-tuned so that older recordings, like 'Kind of Blue,' can once again sound "lush and full."

When asked if any other original, limited-edition headphones are in the works, Mr. Lee responded that, while he's not "free to say," he does enjoy creating an "alignment with musicians" because that "preference for what [artists] would like to hear really translates to the audience" and "adds something special for the consumers."

While definitely a special treat for consumers, the $399 (online price) earbuds don't come cheap. Monster is offering a one-time lifetime guarantee, though, so you don't have to worry if you accidentally send them flying during an animated 'Bitches Brew' head-bopping session. [From: Monster Cable]
