Details of Facebook's New Homepage Design Revealed

The idea is simplicity. When logged in, instead of seeing real-time recent activity on the News Feed, you'll see the new 'Top News' stream, which is supposed to be a highlight of things you've missed throughout the day. But you'll still be able to switch over to the regular old 'Recent Activity' stream, updated in real time. This should make news navigation easier, as well as improve the site's load time.
Also, news items like tagged photos, friend acceptances, birthdays, RSVPs, and relationship changes will once again appear in the main feed, not on the right side of the page. This change in design benefits advertisers, as well, since moving the above items into the center feed will free up space on the right side of the page for larger ads. Also increased will be the number of suggestions (friends, events, etc...) displayed.
We think we speak for most users by saying enough with the facelifts, Facebook. [Ed Note: Bring back searching for activities by type!] Still, if these aesthetic changes mean quicker load times, we are -- albeit reluctantly -- on board. (If you've ever watched that flashing blue bar while the news feed loads, you know what we mean.) Also, the most noticeable difference is the change from the publishing box to an "Update Status" button. Frankly, we prefer the button to Facebook asking, "What's on your mind?"
There's still no official word on when this design will become available to users. Of course, you'll know instantly when the new Facebook has arrived. Just keep an eye out for your friends' angry status updates. [From: Mashable]

Damn it! Leave it alone. Change for changes sake doesn't make it better. It was fine the way it was.

Before FB introduces a new format, maybe they should fix the one they have! It's been over one week and I have experienced numerous glitches and errors. It's a known issue since Oct 14, but FB has said the issue is "resolved". For me, the past week has proven how FB considers its users problems irrelevant. Advertisers beware...FB is ignoring its customers problems, but will do anything to have you advertise there!!!!

I fully agree with you

I agree. The site keeps freezing up and I have to re-do things on Farmville and other games. Get the site working 100% before trying to change anything....

I like how people become indignant over a FREE site that has connected them to everyone from long lost friends to people on the other side of the world.
Facebook owes you nothing.

Just because it is free doesn't mean we have to like it, if you are a Facebook user then you should understand how annoying it to have to deal with this. No one is making a big deal were just saying opinions.

I saw this and agree 100%. I hope you don't mind I actually put it as my Facebook status! Ha. I did use quotations, though! I take no credit. I just really thought it was fantastic! =]

Fix the problems you have on the game before you do any other changes. People are tired of getting booted off games and your new harvesting system is really bad

Facebook has had MANY problems with posting videos and slide shows, so I hate adding more friends and using it to promote with when it doesn't take any of the embed codes. The home page is a PLETHORA of everyone else's app. B.S. and activity, so I can't keep up with the people that I want to, because every time I don't proactively handle everyone's cause invitations and app. invites, I end up with 90-100 notifications and people who think I'm uninterested in what their doing online every day.
I hate FACEBOOK with a passion, anything would be an improvement!!

I just found out from one of my kids friends, just click on the "hide" button to stop notifications on certain stuff. I finally got rid of tons of farmville crap and the damn daily horoscope junk.....YAYYYYY

The answer is simple. Don't use face book.

Facebook's trying to be somewhat like twitter, just like myspace is trying to be Facebook. I personally liked facebook before it made it's twitter-like tweaks, and so do a lot of people. It should stop :(

This sucks. Why do they have to make it harder for me. I want to be able to read my friends status updates and the updates from my pages from as far back as I would like without switching. I want to be able to select, or deselect, what other activities my friends are doing that appear in my news feed. This just makes it more complicated and less easy.

I agree that facebook needs alot of fixing, not advertisers, unless it is to use the funds to fix problems. I am on Facebook 4-5 hours 6-7 days a week and for the last 2 months there has not been a day that i did not have several problems. Come on guys can't we just fix it! I am going to move to something else if it doesn't change even though I really like Facebook when it works..

please get rid of the tiny fonts that require magnification to read. Nothing smaller than size 10.
