Details of Facebook's New Homepage Design Revealed

The idea is simplicity. When logged in, instead of seeing real-time recent activity on the News Feed, you'll see the new 'Top News' stream, which is supposed to be a highlight of things you've missed throughout the day. But you'll still be able to switch over to the regular old 'Recent Activity' stream, updated in real time. This should make news navigation easier, as well as improve the site's load time.
Also, news items like tagged photos, friend acceptances, birthdays, RSVPs, and relationship changes will once again appear in the main feed, not on the right side of the page. This change in design benefits advertisers, as well, since moving the above items into the center feed will free up space on the right side of the page for larger ads. Also increased will be the number of suggestions (friends, events, etc...) displayed.
We think we speak for most users by saying enough with the facelifts, Facebook. [Ed Note: Bring back searching for activities by type!] Still, if these aesthetic changes mean quicker load times, we are -- albeit reluctantly -- on board. (If you've ever watched that flashing blue bar while the news feed loads, you know what we mean.) Also, the most noticeable difference is the change from the publishing box to an "Update Status" button. Frankly, we prefer the button to Facebook asking, "What's on your mind?"
There's still no official word on when this design will become available to users. Of course, you'll know instantly when the new Facebook has arrived. Just keep an eye out for your friends' angry status updates. [From: Mashable]

Facebook was fine before. Now it's becoming too crowded with information I could care less about. I don't play all the games and don't care if Aunt Sally needs a goat for her farm. And the hide button only lasts a couple weeks and THERE IT IS AGAIN! I can complain because the first amendment says I can. I miss all the videos and links down the right side. Now you have to wade through all the stupid stuff just to find the things you look forward to seeing and sharing.

Facebook has made those changes (You cannot go back to the old feed), they are continually making it more and more difficult to navigate. They are killing their site. It was once fun, now they are dictating what you will and will not see (An algorithm decides). They are arrogant asses.

Funny that this article was out on 10/20, yet I am just seeing it now-the day AFTER the big "facelift"! I agree with everyone who says it sucks, and the fact that we may NOT want to see who became friends, joined what group, etc.etc. If we want to know that, we will go to our friends' profile pages and find that out! Jennifer said it best when she said why fix something that ain't broken? I mean, really? Everyone I have talked to HATES the new layout!

I hate how they dropped this on us with no warning. The old home page worked fine. Why do they do crap like this?
BrendaOct 25th 2009 4:55AM
I don't like the new Facebook. They should put it back the way it was and leave it alone. I I know they have upset alot of people. Some people say they might even get rid of Facebook.

Can't stand the new FB site, change it back!!!

If you dont like the new FB here is how you can change it back to the old. Look to the top left menu and click on MORE. Then drag STATUS UPDATES to the top. After dragging to top, click on it. That becomes your default and it is like before. Pass it on

You people need to shut the hell up. They made this site for people to talk to each other, not to spend all day harvesting stupid pixels. Facebook owes you nothing. Stop complaining. If you have so many problems with the site, lets see you become a web developer and make it this popular without making mistakes. Things take time to fix and by the time you fix them, there is already something new coming out that you have to catch up with. If they don't "improve" there will be no advancement, and if they don't advance, it would be even worse. Do you all really want to have to go back to Xanga and Live Journal? I think not.
Shut the hell up and stop complaining, your lucky the site even exists.
