Stewart Copeland Double-Fists the BlackBerry and the iPhone

Forever known for his role as the steady hand driving the Police's white-boy reggae (and the lanky American whose surfer-dude demeanor buoyed Sting's British flamboyance), Stewart Copeland has earned his place in the pantheon of pop music. Since those halcyon days, he hasn't exactly retired to the couch, having shared the stage with artists ranging from neo-proggers Oysterhead to alt. rock stalwarts the Foo Fighters. Now, the lauded drummer has added the vocation of author to his resume. This month, HarperStudio will publish his autobiography 'Strange Things Happen,' wherein he chronicles his life, from his beginnings as a CIA brat to his place on the drum throne with the Police's reunion tour. Finding time between his myriad projects, he found time last month to sit down with us and talk gadgetry.

What gadget do you always bring with you to the studio for down-time?

BlackBerry Bold.

What cell phone do you have right now and what do you love or hate about it?

As above. It takes pictures and has cool music preloaded (mine).

Who's the last person you sent a text message to and what was it about?

Taylor Hawkins -- random chit chat.

Where do you go every time you get online?

MSNBC, then Fox.

What annoys you most about your iPod, cell phone, or laptop?

Nudge my cell phone and it calls someone.

Name one thing you wish your iPod, cell phone or laptop could do that it doesn't do now?

Wireless AC.

What upcoming gadget can you not wait to get your hands on?

Time machine.

You're stranded on a desert island: What gadget do you bring?

Satellite phone.

What's the most-played song or artist on your iPod?

Lame to confess, my own stuff. But it's all business, honest!

What's the longest time you've ever spent playing a video game in one sitting and what game was it?

Uncounted days on 'Myth II.'

Mac or PC?

Mac.

What's the most embarrassing or untrue thing anyone has ever said about you online?

Hmm... I think I've gotten away with most of my indiscretions.

Do you have an HDTV? If so, what kind and how big is it? What's your favorite show to watch in HD?

I watch 'Survivor' with the family. The exotic locations really pop in HD.

iPhone, Palm Pre, or BlackBerry? Why?

iPhone for fun, BlackBerry for business. iPhone does tricks but the BlackBerry does processing.

What's the most embarrassing place your cell phone has gone off?

Never. It always makes me feel important (or loved) when someone takes the trouble to call me. More embarrassing is when my unit accidentally places a random call.
