Gyrowheel Could Make Training Wheels Obsolete
Training wheels can be a significant source of embarrassment for anyone that's learning how to ride a bicycle. The company Gyrobike is seeking to eliminate that humiliation, though, with its incredible 'Gyrowheel,' which it demonstrated at the 2009 Interbike convention (video after the break). The 'Gyrowheel' houses an independent disk, which, when spinning, stabilizes the bike even if nobody is actually riding it. According to the manufacturers, the battery-powered gyroscopic wheel, which can be set to three different stability levels, can help kids safely learn how to ride in as little as 30 minutes.
But, there's something to be said for learning through painful repetition. Bumps, bruises, chipped teeth, and picking gravel from road rash are all part of the process, right? The wheel really does look highly impressive and effective, though, so maybe for its next project Gyrobike can do everyone a favor and create a stabilizer for those ridiculous shopping cart wheels.
