Facebook Hit by Fake Profile Scam

What makes this scam unique is that rather than using hijacked accounts, the malware is spreading through software-generated profiles. The existence of these fake accounts, completely identical outside of the name, indicates that hackers have figured out a way to defeat the Captcha system that is meant to keep bots out.
If you come across a profile that looks similar to the one above (captured by AVG) do not click on the link. The scam is similar to the 'CoooooL Video' spam attack a couple of months back.
The malicious link has been blocked by Facebook and the major Web browsers, and Facebook is working on a way to identify and remove all the fake accounts. More importantly, Facebook now must figure out how to block automated account creation in the future. [From: Mashable, CNET, and AVG]
Death of Print
Elle Girl
In April 2006, Elle Girl's print edition was closed down, but the Web site lives on at ellegirl.com.
CosmoGirl
Though it will be folded into Seventeen magazine, the teen version of Cosmopolitan will publish its last print issue in December 2008. It will live on at CosmoGirl.com.
Christian Science Monitor
Founded in 1908 by Mary Baker Eddy, this venerable paper will move all its daily content to the Web starting in 2009, though it will still publish a weekly print version.
Radar Magazine
Was it too snarky for its own good? We'll never know, but this modern-day successor to '80s-era Spy magazine shut down in October. AMI, owner of the National Enquirer, bought RadarOnline.com, however, which will focus on celebrity gossip a la TMZ.com.
US News and World Report
Once a serious competitor to Time and Newsweek, US News and World Report is now best known for its College guides, which it will continue to publish. The weekly newsmagazine, however, will be turned into a monthly, and all daily operations are moving to the Web at usnews.com.

LOL! Macs are not immune. Also, Facebook has nothing to do with Microsoft. You can get this virus on your iphone using Facebook. That's Mac. Knuckleheads like yourself think Macs are immune from viruses. Hackers don't specifically go after Mac users, becuase there so little of them. Why go after 5 cpus when your chances of getting paid are when you go after 500?

Macs? Why waste your time? Virus are made for PC's bevause more people use them. Macs are NOT immune to viruses. just not as many people using macs, so why write a virus?

I hate to tell you this but the bots have figured out how to get past Captcha a long time ago. Every site is riddled with them. For every real person there are 2 bots.

Never click on a link in anything like Facebook. If you get anything like the fake anti-virus software on screen, just shut the computer off without clicking anything.

Here's a thought. Why don't we just can FB? Doesn't serve any real purpose anyway and it's just another social/program/whatever that keeps people from having real friends instead of internet friends.

There is nothing wrong with FB....Most people use it as a way to keep in touch with "real" friends.

Facebook is most people's prefered way of online communication now. Emails and IMs are outdated.

I find it hard to believe that anyone is going to get a friend request from a total stranger, then try and figure out who it is by watching a video on some random website.
