Tweeting About HBO Star's Dine And Dash Gets Waiter Fired
When will people learn that Twitter isn't the place to complain about their job? Jon-Barrett Ingels became another footnote in Twitter history after he was fired for writing a nasty tweet about HBO star Jane Adams. The former waiter at Barney Greengrass in Beverly Hills was outraged after Adams, who appears in 'Hung,' skipped out on $13.44 bill earlier this summer. Believe it or not, she actually pulled the old "I left my checkbook in my car" routine and ditched. According to thisisbrandx, one of her "people" called the next day and paid the bill -- but made the cardinal sin of not leaving a tip.But the story doesn't end there. About a month later, Adams stormed into the restaurant, walked up to Ingels and handed him $3. After this Emmy-worthy scene, a manager discovered Ingels regularly tweeted about stars that visited the restaurant and fired the man because of "various compaints" from customers. What was Ingels thinking? He should've published his rants on Youtube, instead. [From: thisisbrandx]

I'm bothered the most by one thing:
Who the heck is she to get all in a huff because SHE got called out for NOT tipping the waiter?!
Hello, Ms. McFly? How many waiters/waitresses do you know that do the job for fun, without tips?? Takes a lot of nerve to eat, skip, pay the NEXT day and not even leave the kid a tip. I mean, he had to already deal with the fact YOU left. Do you know how fun that is to explain to your manager?? Hm? Then not to even leave a buck? Geeeez.
After all, the kid did his job.
He served her the $13.95 lunch and she ate it happily.
Hopefully, Ms. Adams will learn some manners in her next acting role. Or at least how to bring your wallet when you go out to eat.
And maybe Brandx will learn how NOT to use names in his Tweets.

These people clearly don't "get" the internets. I, and I'm fairly sure a huge number of people, wouldn't have know or cared about any of this.. had the waiter not been fired.

A story about the clueless "twittering" over the immature. Wow, now my day is complete. Do you have another story about what they both did in the respective bathrooms later?
Get a life, AOL...
dowellgodwinOct 2nd 2009 3:22PM
hey bob...you saw the headline, read the article, and then took the time to blog that it was not newsworthy. what exactly is your point?
Lobster LoverfOct 2nd 2009 4:25PM
Why were you reading it Bob???? Personally I think that once again it proves that money does not equal class. I have never been a waiter but I understand that they make less than minimum wage. Most places make the waiter pay when the customer walks. She is a low life, she paid a measly 3 dollar tip and didnt reimburse the price of her meal??? What a waste of oxygen she is,
SophieOct 2nd 2009 4:28PM
I agree with you Bob; however, in this case, this isn't so much about the actress and what she did as much as it is about an ongoing debate about how Twitter - by its nature - is causing people to overexpose themselves and how it affects their lives in the negative. You have to put this story in the proper context - its intrinsic impact is negligeable, Twitter is the real story.

hey bob! you get one first

had he posted it on youtube....he'd be a star right now......
as an ex waitress...i would have done the same thing.

I hope someone winds up giving her "A Little Something Extra" in her food sometime .

I love the show HUNG in general but in particular I love Jane Adam's role. However, NO ONE should ever not tip - celebrity or not, Jane, it is no excuse and diminishes you greatly in the eyes of any fans you may have regardless of your talent.

What really cracks me up is that she had the audacity to "storm" into the restaurant to give him his measly $3!
She ate almost $14 worth of food, left without paying, had someone come in later to pay (not because she owed, but because the waiter Twitted about it) then came back with a crappy tip (because the waiter again Twitted)!
And SHE has the right to "storm"? Plus, she got the guy fired!
She was wrong, but the guy got fired?
I just don't get it!!
Someone explain it to me like I'm a 4 yr. old, cuz I just don't get it!!
gladmuethOct 2nd 2009 2:24PM
Gotta say my sympathies lie with the waiter.
Robbie DorianOct 2nd 2009 4:38PM
I have to agree. Especially since he probably had to cover the tab himself.
m blanksOct 2nd 2009 2:26PM
HIRE this guy..he has a right to say what he wants and is looking out for your establishment. STARS want to be twitted...noticed...except when they are the stuck up ...and get caught. Ban this $13.00 lying wh...e. and let her keep the 3.00 tip. DISGUSTING>>>>
Someone who gets itOct 10th 2009 3:56PM
you folks really don't get it. He was a waiter at a restaurant where 95% of the clientele are actors, agents etc. They have very firm rules that you do NOT under any reason speak of who comes in, what they ordered, who they were with etc. Otherwise the clients would never come back. He broke that rule at least a dozen times. He got caught finally because someone told Ms Adams about the tweet and a concern was filed with the company who then monitored his username and found that this was a habit. Further the comments were sometimes lewd and highly inappropriate (ratings ladies breasts for example).
Who knows what happened when Ms Adams got to her car. She could have had every intention of paying. Perhaps she discovered her wallet was not in her car, called her agents office and was told they would take care of it but the assistant didn't bother until the next day. Perhaps she told him to be sure to include a big tip and he screwed it up. As it was, a 15% tip on her check is only $2.00 so don't say she undertipped him. Especially after his behavior.

I think judging this woman on this one incident is a little harsh. This is coming from someone who has worked for tips. And i understand the waiters frustration, when you work for tips and someone doesn't tip you or doesn't tip you properly for whatever reason it just leaves a horrible taste in your mouth. And it could be three dollars or one dollar on a 7 dollar check. The point is a tip is expected, deserved and is the proper thing to do. Now with that being said, over the years i've come to realize judging people on one instance just isn't fair, you catch someone on a bad day, things are going in their life, tipping a couple dollars may not be a priority. Now that isn't an excuse, i'm just saying if she does the right thing on all other occasions it isn't really fair to judge her negatively on one occasion, i mean she could have actually forgotten her check book, ran out to her car, got an important call, had to leave town, told someone to take care of the bill, that person didn't think to leave a tip, and there you have it. A bit of a stretch i know, but i've learned to wait for a person to act a certain way repeatedly before you judge them harshly, and there are plenty of people to go around for that!
hippysvilleOct 2nd 2009 3:21PM
Deserved????? outa yer f....n mind....A tip is given for service, not cause some arrogant a$$h..e thinks u owe it.... And I am not implying this server is.......
AJM4youOct 2nd 2009 3:21PM
I think "judging" here should be left up to the courts. She walked out on a bill, for which she should be prosecuted, PERIOD. Whether she had someone else, or she herself paid it at a later date, it was theft at the least. But, money talks. If it had been me or any of you, we'd be in jail for it, regardless of whether we asked someone to go pay for it, or did it ourselves at a later time.
weejjOct 2nd 2009 4:27PM
Brian, there in lies the problem ... "The point is a tip is expected, deserved and is the proper thing to do." Expected, for sure. Deserved, depends on the service given. The proper thing to, in most cases.
I have eaten in very expensive restaurant, 4 for $450 and tipped $100 because the service was truly exceptional. But I've eaten in restaurants of equal stature and paid 10% because the wait staff was deplorable even if the food was excellent. I've eaten in the places that were just plain, only there to grab a bite to eat but the wait staff was exceptional and a tip equal to the bill was paid. Likewise the opposite has also happened. They all expected a tip, it was the proper thing to do, but it was not always deserved. By the way,I have also left a tip that was a note to management stating I left no tip because your wait staff was sullen, inattentive, argumentative, food was over/undercooked, and it was an unejpyable evening. Before you get in a huff, I also let management know when the service has been exceptional.
Confidentiality is not served well by twitter abd the wait staff should know that a breach of confidentiality is the exit door.
TWOHORNSNOHALOOct 2nd 2009 4:55PM
she ate the meal it is her responsibility to pay for it.
plain and simple.
if she hadnt been a star she would have ahd the cops called on her.
