Brits Ask Schwarzenegger to Shutter Prostitute Rating Web Site

His state government is in an, ahem, interminable budget crisis. His approval ratings are plummeting faster than 'Jingle All the Way' fell out of theaters. Things are so dire, even his kids have stopped bathing. And now, on top of all this, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has a mini international prostitution dispute to deal with.

Harriet Harman, minister for women and equality in Great Britain, has asked Schwarzenegger to shut down a California-based Web site called "Punternet," which allows users to rate and comment on prostitutes. Harman's beef apparently stems from the fact that there are "pages and pages of women for sale in London." Taking every opportunity, as most people do, to slip in a 'Terminator' joke, Harman argued that "it can't be too difficult for 'The Terminator' to terminate Punternet and that's what I am demanding that he does."

Prostitution, curiously enough, is not illegal in Britain, although peripheral activities like soliciting sex, using cards for advertising, and "kerb crawling" are punishable by law. The government has, though, made efforts to rein in human trafficking in preparation for the 2012 Olympic Games, to be held in London, and will soon introduce a law making it illegal to use a prostitute controlled by a pimp.

No word yet from Schwarzenegger or U.S. Embassy officials, but we doubt this one ranks very high on Arnold's To Do List. He probably should take some action, since human trafficking and sexual exploitation, unlike his career, is no joke. Realistically, though, we're not sure shutting down the site would put much of a dent in the armor of Internet illegality (Craigslist, anyone?). Once he does that, the governor can get back to taking his political career where it was headed before this small controversy arose. [From: Reuters]
