Former Postal Worker Admits Stealing Over 3,000 Netflix DVDs
A former government employee amassed quite a collection of DVDs over the years, but there's one problem. They were all stolen property. Myles Weathers, who worked at a postal sorting facility in Springfield, Massachusetts, plead guilty Tuesday to federal theft charges. According to The Smoking Gun, Weathers swiped 3,012 Netflix DVDs, worth about $36,471, during his tenure as a postal worker. Apparently, Netflix officials discovered Weathers's scam when they noticed an unusual amount of DVDs were reported missing by customers in the area. Turns out, video surveillance showed Weathers pulling the bright red envelopes from stacks of mail and placing them inside his backpack.
Weathers faces up to five years in prison, but his sentence should be doubled on account of stupidity. Forget the fact that 3,000 missing DVDs will raise some questions. Weathers did all of his Netflix harvesting inside the Post Office in plain view of security cameras! Maybe if he'd known he could watch Colin Farrell movies streaming for free on Netflix, he'd never have been caught. [From: The Smoking Gun, via Gizmodo]
