Farmer Deters Wireless Internet Company With Garlic

A Nova Scotia man has figured out that garlic does more than fend off blood-sucking vampires. According to CBC News, garlic cropper Lenny Levine recently implored his local Kings County Council to prevent the construction of a nearby Eastlink microwave tower that was intended to bring high-speed wireless Internet to the area.

Levine, who has been operating his farm since the '70s, said that he views the tower "with dread, fear, and panic" because he's afraid that radiation from it will "change the DNA of the garlic." The Council did subsequently approve the construction of five other towers, but shot down the potential garlic mangler. The Council's decision might still be overturned, though, since the federal Industry Canada department will have the final say on the matter.

Levine's neighbors, who voted in favor of the tower, certainly can't be happy, since they're stuck with infuriatingly slow dial-up connections. But, at least Levine went through the proper channels and didn't go berserker on Eastlink's structures, like some other tower-haters. [From: CBC News]
